Kefalothiri is a viscous cheese of pale yellow color. Its taste is salty, spicy and buttery. It is made from a mixture of sheep and goat milk. The best quality of the cheese is determined primarily by its raw material – when it is made from the milk of purebred sheep, freely grazing on the mountain pastures of Crete. Ideal for pasta dishes! Since 1952 and for 3 generations, the STEIAKAKI family has continued to produce excellent products in the traditional way, without preservatives, with modern equipment. Their raw material is local milk, collected daily in the Messara area of Heraklion Prefecture, Crete. The excellent raw material, i.e. the milk used, determines their consistent and excellent quality of the product, since it comes from animals freely grazing in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of Crete. These areas are very rich in nutrients. Dairy company Steiakakis introduces Greek consumers to Cretan products, renowned worldwide for their high quality. This is due to the constant care of the producers, the excellent soil and climate conditions, respect for both the raw materials and the production process.
